Earth, Weed and Fire

psychedelic, spacey stoner metal. can't find a damn thing for 'em, so you get a generic image.
for fans of Mammatus and Bongripper, this shit is heavy and catchy. not as soul-wrenching as many, but said catchiness makes it worth a listen. there are a few samples thrown about that don't quite fit the mood, but Earth, Weed and Fire more than make up for it in atmosphere. I look forward to embracing the collection in the way it was intended. until then, still great music. the riffs may be a little stale for some, making listening a long haul, or they may march along to make for a great trip.

Down

You can in no way understand the excitement I felt when I FINALLY found this album. Down’s first album NOLA, the long sought after album itself. I finally have it, my god. What I’ve missed!

Sourvein

Alright so here is the Sourvein EP Ghetto Angel. I gotta say, I've been looking for some Sourvein for a long time, without luck, until I stumbled across this. This is a really good album. It's droney, it's sludgy, it's crunchy, it's just fucking great. Anyway, Ghetto Angel opens with the song Nightwing, which is a decent enough song. The vocals are rather odd, they kind of remind me of Buzzov-en, actually.

(Sons of) Otis - Paid to Suffer

This has been a long term personal favourite of mine. Otis, later changed name to Sons of Otis, are a (very) psychedelic Stoner Doom band. Huge riffs (durrr), extremely dynamic and just... out of this world. If anyone ever spots a distro which still sells this, PLEASE tell me.

Keep off the grass

So here we go, I've got quite a haul for you of stoner shit. Just because I wanted to post that pic which my cousin sent me from his time overseas with the Air Force. I think I'll start the list off which a link to one of my personal favorites: Acrimony's Hymns to the Stone. The album has a driving groove to it, that it just perfect for the genre. Big influence on stoner doom metal, and stoner rock in general Acrimony came out of Wales in the 1990's. It's funny to me that the song Hymns to the Stone wasn't released until their 1997 release. Next I have Om's Conference of the Birds, which is another favorite of mine (particularly Flight of the Eagle), it's a 2 song album both songs are very long, and it sounds like chanting. It's got a meditative sound to it, I've been interested in doing an experiment with Om about the reaction of someone stoned to the music. It took me a while to find a working link, but I did it, the third on the list is Electric Wizard's brilliant album Dopethrone. Honestly, I'm so glad I found it because I wasn't impressed with Supercoven, so I was weary to get this and Let Us Prey. Dopethrone is a must have for a good stoner collection. I will finish off with Bongzilla's album Gateway, it's a pretty good album, it sounds real similar to their previous releases, a very consistent band, and keeps with the theme of it all. As always, I encourage you to purchase all of these albums.

Acrimony- Hymns to the Stone
Om- Conference of the Birds
Electric Wizard- Dopethrone
Electric Wizard- Let Us Prey [Remastered]
Bongzilla- Gateway

On a separate note, America has a new president. Sen. Barack Obama was elected last night to become President Barack Obama, we have a challenge ahead of us, lets just pray for the better. Hopefully things won't go over too badly. And if they do we can always tear down the capitalist American infrastructure and make something better in the rubble. You know, whatever works.

Rue/Aldebaran split

...

YOB - Catharsis

This is a request being filled in.

This particular album, Catharsis, encompasses all qualities an album should have. It's heavy as fuck, it doesn't get boring easily i.e. it has a lot of respin value. Great production etc...

Just listen to it, durrrrr

Bongzilla

So Bongzilla is a stoner doom band out of Wisconsin. Yeah, I can't really say much about this band because 1) I only own two albums, and 2) it's not totally my style. Yeah. Obviously it's quite a bit of emphasis on the "stoner" aspect, they sing about legalization and other marijuana related shit, it's pretty cool. Apogee is a decent album, but most of the songs on it are live, so they sound pretty shitty, but the songs that are studio sound really good. Amerijuanican is their latest album, and it's not half bad, if I don't say so myself. Cool band all around, again, it's not totally my style, but I like it nonetheless, just gotta check 'em out and make up your own mind. This is another band that Dixie is in, the man gets around.

Rwake Discography

Okay, upon request, I offer up the discography of sludge giants Rwake.
Rwake is a sludge/doom band from Little Rock, Arkansas. They have found a fan base with their unique brand of sludge metal. The vocals are the effort of two, fronted with C.T.'s sandpaper laden vocal chords, and backed up by the harsh and unintelligible high pitched shrieks and screams of the only female in the group, B. Rwake is really, really, abrasive. If you're a fan of shit like EyeHateGod, Soilent Green, and Leechmilk you’ll be a quick fan of Rwake. Not only is Rwake incredibly abrasive, they are also incredibly bleak. But don’t make the mistake in thinking that "abrasive" is synonymous with "bad", in many of their songs (most counting in at over 6 minutes), the band members constantly show their talent, a chief example is in the songs Leviticus and Intro off of Voices of Omens, Gravy shows a mastery of his instrument. If you're looking for a rec, then I definitely would say go for Voices of Omens, and If You Walk Before You Crawl... You Crawl Before You Die. Both great albums, I'm not too hot on Absence Due To Projection, but I've only managed to spin it once, so I'll let you decide on that one.

Things move a little slower in the south, Rwake is no different.
