Woods Of Ypres

Name: Woods Of Ypres
Genre: Black Metal
Location: Canada (AKA CANADIALAND)

Woods Of Ypress are pretty alright, they have a fairly interesting folky style without actually being folky, and the music itself finds itself sporting some very enjoyable riffs at times. A good listen for walks in the forests or green hills on a cold and dreary winter day.

Buck-Tick - 13Kai Wa Gekou

Band: Buck-Tick
Genre: Pop/Rock
Location: Japan

Notes: The band is fairly famous in the Japanese rock scene, they've been around since the early 80's and have consistently released material throughout their career. The album 13Kai Wa Gekou finds them utilizing a darker, goth-rock sound mixed with their standard poppy Rock styles, and it can be very pleasing. Good for a fan of japanese music, or anyone who can appreciate pop-stylings in a darker format. Standout tracks include "Doukeshi A" and "Romance -Incubo-".

Blacktusk

Void of The Fallen Kingdom, but still an amazing discography worth downloading. Similar to Iron Monkey.

Blacktusk - 2006 Demo, Passage Through Purgatory, When Kingdom Falls

Five for the price of none.

Band: Whitehouse
Place of Origin: UK
Album: Asceticists
Year: 2006
Genre: Power Electronics

The kings of the power electronics world, nothing is slowing down Whitehouse. Asceticists was a new release when I first heard it, and it blew me away. It's by no means as raw from start-to-finish as Bird Seed, but it's still a fantastic piece. Highly recommended for anyone looking to get into noise.

Band: White Mice
Place of Origin: Providence, RI
Album: Assphixxxeatateshun
Year: 2005
Genre: Noise

White Mice have always been an impressive display of loud, unrelenting noise. Their live performances are distinct for their strange, terrifying mouse costumes with glowing red eyes, and abrasive live electronics. This album certainly does the group justice, and is a cute display of their creativity (Even the title alone should be exemplary of that).

Band: The Exciting Trio
Place of Origin: Chicago, IL
Album: In Chicago There is Willy
Year: 2004
Genre: Jazz, improvisation.

I was just given this album last night as a birthday gift from my father. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but what I have heard is refreshing, catchy, enjoyable, and most importantly (as promised) NEW! Here's a write-up from the label 482. "No, The Exciting Trio isn't a typical guitar group. On the trio's debut recording, In Chicago There is Willy, the band tends toward dry melodicism, gentle pacing and cool abstraction, touching equally on jazz and post-rock, while lining their music with bits of electronic sound...this CD is a promising start for a young band."Aaron Steinberg, JazzTimes

Band: Forcefield
Place of Origin: Providen
Album: Lord of the Rings Modulator
Year: 2003
Genre: Noise

Another strong noise album that I was attracted to for its cute title. The album was released after the Forcefield collective broke up. It has a lot of great harsh noise contrasted by interesting tonalities created via a ring modulator. Give it a shot.

Band: Various Artists
Place of Origin: Chicago, IL
Album: Document Chicago: New Jazz and Improvisation
Year: 2003
Genre: New Jazz and Improvisation

Another birthday gift, I haven't gotten the chance to listen to it yet so this will an adventure for all of us together. It features a lot of great Chicago jazz artists, including the previously posted Exciting Trio, The Treehouse Effect, and Jon Doyle.

Remember to buy it if you like it!

Gates of Winter-'Lux Aeterna'

Band: Gates of Winter
Place of Origin:
Canada (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario)
Album: Lux Aeterna
Year: 2008
Genre: Progressive Heavy Metal

Just one more reason to show some respect for Progressive Metal. Really heavy, trudging sound with alternating clean/harsh vocals. Even has some female backing vocals on one track. Certainly not run-of-the-mill.

Guns N' Roses

For anyone who still gives a shit about Guns N Roses. I have to admit, I stopped listening to the gunners for a long fucking time. Why? Because Axl Rose is the biggest asshole in existence. Then I realized it's hypocritical to not listen to GNR for that reason yet still listen to KISS. So here we are.

So classic rock band, a very skilled guitarist by the name of Slash, a decent bassist (and sometimes vocalist) named Duff, a drummer who I don't know the name of, and of course their singer (who is actually very good) Axl. So I have here Greatest Hits, Appetite for Destruction and 'The Spaghetti Incident?' all zipped up into a convenient package.

Kingdom - Kingdom

Band: Kingdom
Country: Belgium
Album: s/t demo
Year: 2008
Genre: Atmospheric Sludge/Hardcore/Drone

Alrighty. If the artwork somehow looked familiar to some people, good on ya, because this band is a side-project of three Amenra members.

Hyatari - The Light Carriers

Band: Hyatari
Country: Watergate
Album: The Light Carriers
Year: 2004
Genre: Drone/Doom

Absolutely gorgeous and massive album, fairly accessible even. For people who didn't find their fancy in Monarch or Moss but have a thing for massive chords backed up by intelligent textures.

Assück - Misery Index

Band: Assück
Album: Misery Index
Year: 1997
Genre: Grind/Death Metal
Country: Fitzgerald

Alrighty, second and last full-length by Assück. Possibly more brutal and focussed than Anticapital.

Evoke.

Assück - Anticapital

Band: Assück
Album: Anticapital
Year: 1992
Genre: Grind/Death Metal
Country: Bush Doctrine

Alrighty, this album has a funny story behind it. One of my last international school trips hit me up with Prague, where I found an awesome shabby record store which held tons of awesome Sludge, Death, Grind, Punk etc records. I didn't have much money, as usual, so I grabbed Assück's Misery Index. Only when I got home, I noticed that the guy who runs the shop had put in an Anticapital disc, epic lulz.

Anyway, this is very short but very ... grinding. Guess it shows that good stuff can happen too when a couple of hardcore guys pick up a guitar and play Death Metal.

Priestermord - Vernichtungsfeldzug

Band: Priestermord
Album: Vernichtungsfeldzug
Year: 1997
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Nazilands

Alrighty, one out of the old box. This is an album I stumbled on when I was digging through some German Black Metal (shit-good ratio 85-15%, as usual). It's a short, energetic, nearly punkish album with simple, bangyourheadthekvltway riffs and fairly straightforward lyrics. (Dämonentanz Dämonentanz!)

Blood of the Black Owl - Blood of the Black Owl

Band: Blood of the Black Owl
Album: Blood of the Black Owl
Year: 2006
Genre: Doom/Death/Funeral Doom

A rather unconventional band with a very strong emphasis on nature. Solo-project, the same guy who is also in Ruhr Hunter, some nature based ritual music hippy project, y'know. Grow a beard and connect to nature.

Religious Knives

Band: Religious Knives
Genre: Noise/Experimental/?Drone/?Ambient
Country: The one with the nikka president, BRO FIST!
Album: Somewhat a discog

So I'm basically reposting something that has been posted by someone a while ago, id est Religious Knives. Having spun their In Brooklyn After Dark 12" just now, I thought it'd be nice to share it with all of you fags. As you have seen, it's kind of hard to put them in one little genre, but fuck that, who needs an exact genre description anyway. As the person who originally posted this said: "Some of the most amazing droning noise I've heard in a while. Though at times they're not even that noisy". The download contains several of their records, among which the aforementioned, Remains (superb!), 2, 4 and a couple of 7 inchaz!

Boogieman

Uploaded for Dan.
Swedish stoner rock/sludge band. They've got a high energy style reminiscent of rock bands from the 80s, and a smooth chill sludgy style reminiscent of bands such as Down, and doom bands in the vein of Church of Misery. They've got a grinding style accented with heavy riffs. This is their debut album Triple Six Blues.

AC/DC

I've been meaning to post my AC/DC albums for a long fucking time. If you don't know who AC/DC is you need to get out of your box. I have 6 albums, with Bon Scott, and with Brian Johnson on vocals. Even got their new one, Black Ice, goddamn are they getting old.

Highway To Hell
Back in Black
Powerage
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
If You Want Blood, You Got It!

Southern Isolation

Okay, here is Southern Isolation's one and only album. Southern Isolation is a southern rock/folk band from Louisiana. The duo comprises Phil Anselmo and (then) wife Stephanie Opal. The band is made up of guitar and vocals, provided by Phil and Stephanie, respectively. Stephanie shows that she has a truly beautiful voice, singing lead in all the songs. Philip provides backing vocals on a couple of the tracks, and lead in the last song Southern Man I Am.

This album is executed beautifully. It's truly a shame that they only released the self titled. Just like with crust punk band Arson Anthem we're shown that Philip has mastery over the guitar as he does over singing. I honestly think all of you will get into this really easily.

Black Shape of Nexus - Microbarome Meetings

Band: Black Shape of Nexus
Country: Germany
Album: Microbarome Meetings
Genre: Drone/Doom
Year: 2008

So this isn't exactly their youngest album since it's been out for quite a while, but anyway, it's their second. Their first album, aptly called Black Shape of Nexus, still dwelled more on the sludgy kind of drone. With Microbarome Meetings, they take themselves to a whole new level. Some of you might find that certain loops portray their influences properly. I am still gobsmacked by how ... full this album is. Which shouldn't be much of a surprise, because the band comprises of no less than 7 members. Very interesting, throbbing and out-there album. Not my upload.

Biosphere - Substrata

Band: Biosphere
Country: Norway
Genre: 'Arctic' Ambient/Electronic
Album: Substrata
Year: 1997

Alrighty then, Biosphere. This is Geir Jenssen aka Biosphere's second album, the first one being Patashnik (which I will post later on). Biosphere is considered a classic Ambient album, portraying all the characteristics you need for a lush voyage through some smooth layers. Very evocative, etc...
