Lord By Fire

Next up from me is Richmond, Virginia sludge act Lord by Fire. So as not to confuse anyone, they were previously known as Sword but they changed their name due to the rising popularity of doom band THE Sword. Their music is what you would expect from sludge, pounding atmosphere combined with some bad. ass. fucking. riffs.

Artist: Achilles

Achilles is a Hardcore outfit with members from all around the States, hailing from various previous projects. With a very progressive and technical sound, Achilles may not stand out too far from the pack, but certainly they are more accessible to the more common ear.

I offer up the drone gods from Japan: Boris. I say "Drone gods" but in truth Boris has spanned so many genres that it's hard to put a for sure name on them. I can't offer up their full discography, but I can offer up what I have. Amplifier Worship, Feedbacker, and Empty Bottle (Live at Chicago). This is a marvelous band that is worth checking out no matter what genre is your niche. Plus they have a guitarist who sure is purdy.

Leechmilk - Starvation of Locusts

This one is a good one. Extremely grinding, filthy, grimy, depressing, angry, raw sludge of the best kind. Clocking in at less than half an hour, it shows that these guys don't riff for riffing, they riff for destruction. For fans of EYEHATEGOD, Noothgrush, Hawg Jawg, etc...

Alright, alright! Here are Down's albums Down II: A Bustle In Your Hedgerow and Down III: Over The Under. Down is a super group from New Orleans members from such acts as Corrosion of Conformity, Superjoint Ritual, Crowbar, Eyehategod, and Kingdom of Sorrow. I'm a big fan of Phil Anselmo and of the Sludge metal genre, so I was drawn to Down like a fly to a zap light. I was met with Down II, a marvelous album altogether, very well put together. Frustrated and angry, absolutely beautiful composition. I am truly sorry that I don't have their first album NOLA, but I can't find it anywhere I go. Gotta keep looking.

Even if you aren't a fan of sludge, this is a very easy band to get into, Phil really shows his vocal talents, and Pepper Keenan throws out some really great riffs.

Godless Cruelty

Artist: Godless Cruelty
Album: Hass Propaganda + Perversion Am Kreuz
Genre: Black Metal
Nationality: Germany

The album Hass Propaganda is relatively unknown, voila la raison I upload it. I'm adding in Perversion Am Kreuz as a treat.

Terra Firma and Plutonium Orange

First post from me, allllriiiiighty then.

First off is Terra Firma, one of my favorite bands right now. Featuring the vocals of Christian Lindersson from Count Raven and Lord Vicar, this band combines what I feel to be classic rock of the seventies and some nice stoner groove.

Harm's Way

Secondly is two demos from the side project of Swallow the Sun guitarist and drummer Juha Raivio and Pasi Pasanen. Modern style rock with stoner and heavy metal influences, according to MA, but its actually rather hard to describe. Just listen for yourself.

Passive Aggressive

Passive Aggressive are a Black/Doom band with a very Heavy Metal style on the Black Metal, making them very unique in my opinion, and very ballsy. The lyrics, typical of a lot of BM, tend to be strange and even nonsensical at times (I.E. "Chapter of the ancient bitch, the perilous.. The universe contains a shrub" = lol wut?), but the music is extremely solid, with a tight bass end that can groove as well as it can pummel. With tracks like the standout "Death And The Hungry", its hard not to feel like Passive Aggressive are going somewhere, and going somewhere good.
