David Allan Coe. What can I say? The country man that was so metal. Known for his x-rated albums and his sometimes rank subject matter, David Allan Coe is an essential addition to the collection of any fan of outlaw country, southern rock, even some of the bluesier varieties of sludge metal. DAC is one bad mother fucker, as you can tell from such songs are Long Haired Redneck, Son of the South, and Willie, Waylon, and Me.

Musically, David has a very strong voice that he can tune to a lot of different sounds. From the mournful You Never Even Called Me By My Name to the gospel Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone).

Water Fai are a Japanese psychedelic-pop band, formed in Osaka in 2002. These four women dynamically contrast intricate melodies and soft harmonies with violent guitar-noise and electronic effects. They bring a much needed feminine approach to the post-rock genre that is so often dominated by male artists (and their biggest influences) like Mogwai and Tortoise. They bring their own translation of the sentimentality captured best by The Album Leaf and Yo La Tengo.

psychedelic, spacey stoner metal. can't find a damn thing for 'em, so you get a generic image.
for fans of Mammatus and Bongripper, this shit is heavy and catchy. not as soul-wrenching as many, but said catchiness makes it worth a listen. there are a few samples thrown about that don't quite fit the mood, but Earth, Weed and Fire more than make up for it in atmosphere. I look forward to embracing the collection in the way it was intended. until then, still great music. the riffs may be a little stale for some, making listening a long haul, or they may march along to make for a great trip.

Awesome black metal i stumbled across the other day. I have not been able to stop playing this sweet album. They are from Germany and have been around since about 03. Great vocals and atmosphere. The riffs are just as sweet as the rest of the tunes. A tad out of the ordinary for the style and can really only be likened to Mgla or a few others. Almost sludgey at times as well. I highly recommend this album to those that love Mgla. Enjoy the newest album.

I believe I have found one of the most pissed off, heavy, fast, and abrasive bands in all of hardcore punk. Grinding hardcore with a sludgy sting, these guys played with the likes of Assuck and Charles Bronson back in 1998. Five-piece, female bassist, groovy distorted as fuck guitars, and a vocalist (and back-up) with glass in his screaming throat. Canadians with an overflow of hate, they show plenty of metal influence and keep every song interesting with pounding riffs and solid song structure. It also seems that the drummer actively melds well into the sound of the rest of the band, not merely blast-beatting away.

I've seen a rise in Farmer/Liberal Black Metal discussion lately, mainly by people who are mislead as to what Black Metal is.

So I decided to post this little gem. A band 3 years younger than their Cherry Picking counterparts and one that is very enjoyable as far as opinions go.

The band is VERY original and isn't one that would rip their Wisconsin (Correct me if I'm wrong) Bonfire marshmallow eating counterpart Wolves in the Throne Room, but there certainly are a few influence here and there and if you've never heard of WitTR you'd think that these guys do it better than WitTR.

They also have the same Ideals (If you're into Musical Ideologies) They're both Leftists or somesort... Yeah, just thought I'd throw that in there..

next is Fall of Efrafa, a heavy, crusty, experimental post-hardcore, post-rockish band whose unique music is based upon "a re-imagining of the mythological and political overtones in the book "watership down" by Richard Adams, focusing their efforts in forwarding atheist/animal rights ideologies". long, heavy, dark, almost depressive stuff. here are the first two of the three-part set entitled "The Warren of Snares", as well as the track "Tharn":

Fall of Efrafa - Owsla
OWSLA (meaning warrior or defender), the first record, created the narrative of an unnamed society in the final throws of a war against mankind. A society that still clings to the dwindling beliefs of its elders, yet struggles to break free of stagnating ideology.

Fall of Efrafa - Elil
ELIL (meaning enemy, or predator)was their second full length and dealt with these beliefs, and the oppressive reign of religious indoctrination. In this chapter, the society finally overthrows the rule of their god, Frith.

The final chapter, which they are currently writing, is called INLE (meaning both death, and the name of a deific character within the societies beliefs) This is the final recording effort of Fall of efrafa, and also the end of the trilogy. It will deal with hope in the face of death. (Fall '09 Release)

That's it. I've had it. This record, Dwellers in Twilight, has bashed it's way up my top favourite Sludge/Doom records so far it annihilated Fleshpress along the way. Its Doom drives you face down into the ground, its Sludge will piss on you just for the fun of it.

So yeah, it's good stuff. Three songs reaching fourty minutes, expect moar and moar than the split with Rue which was posted months ago.

Grief. Archetypical Sludge/Doom band, one of the biggest names together with Eyehategod, Noothgrush and Corrupted. Torso is their 1998 album. Picked this up in my record store a couple of days ago. Tortured, devastating throaty vocals, minimalistic, trodding riffs and thunderrollin' drums. Lyrics ain't pretty, nor is life.

Didn't quite know what to expect, except for something people described as dark, progressive and psyched up rock. Turns out it was, and they put out an amazing live show. Exhilarating drumming, throbbing bass, jazzy piano and spaced out guitar. Fabulous mucisianship. Part one of a full-length trilogy.

Brian Eno & Laraaji - Ambient 3: Day of Radiance

The titles says it all. Episode 3 of Eno's ambient series, this time in collaboration with Laraaji, whom you may already know of a track he contributed to A Brief History of Ambient: Volume 1. Rather excentric and not ambient in the sense as you might expect it, as it features very little electronics.

Wikiquote: "Laraaji uses a variety of acoustic stringed instruments such as a hammered dulcimer and 36-stringed open-tuned zither.

The first three tracks are variations on a theme named "The Dance", and are delivered in a fast, hypnotic, Gamelan-like, rhythmic pace on a hammered dulcimer. Eno's input is not only in the role of producer; he also adds many creative touches to the natural instrument-sounds. In particular, he "layers" the tracks, after which he applies phasing, reverberation/delay effects and graphic EQ to the point at which the dulcimer almost sounds like other instruments."

A plethora of artists contribute, most notably Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Ashra, Tangerine Dream, Harold Budd etc... which leads to a rather varied and exciting listening experience. I hope you'll enjoy it, and if you don't, maybe you'll have learned something more about genre origins. Win-win situation here, guys.

Notes:

Those who have heard of Krallice fall into either of this two categories. Those who dislike it and those who like it, I for one fall on the former. I seriously didn't find Krallice to be good or anything and I often find myself trying to figure out what's appealing to the music instead of actually listening to it.

So when I heard that Valhom sound similar to Krallice in terms of technicality (lol, BM and tech) I knew I have to get my hands on it because there is a high chance that it would suck. 5 minutes of Googling later and I found it, listened to it and realized that it is more traditional than Krallice were and find myself utterly disappointed.

The music is very destructive and heavy, but still melodic at the same time, the tempo is at lightning speed most of the time(which is a plus imo) the production was passable and It really fit the music. I've only heard the album twice so far and I'm already digging it.

Overall, I liked it (which sucks). Despair is a really really great album and it is something the USBM fags should be proud of.

My first Free Jazz, so I really have nothing to go off of as for a comparison, but I'd say they're a pretty fantastic band. They implement Noise in their sound as well. Definitely not for someone looking for any kind of melody, though if you are looking for something to find yourself in, this may just be it.

If you've heard of Atsuo's (Boris Drummer) Post-Rock side project, Rollo. then you can expect almost the same with this one, absolutely melancholic and boring.

It is so boring that I give it a 5 out of 5. Highly Recommended for introverts and boring people.

Also, others say that the music have a few Neo-Classical elements, but so far I've heard nothing except for the actual usage of Classical instruments on some tracks so I am a bit skeptical about it.. or maybe I just didn't notice it.

I didn't have much money, as usual, so I grabbed Assück's Misery Index. Only when I got home, I noticed that the guy who runs the shop had put in an Anticapital disc, epic lulz.

Anyway, this is very short but very ... grinding. Guess it shows that good stuff can happen too when a couple of hardcore guys pick up a guitar and play Death Metal.

Okay, here is Southern Isolation's one and only album. Southern Isolation is a southern rock/folk band from Louisiana. The duo comprises Phil Anselmo and (then) wife Stephanie Opal. The band is made up of guitar and vocals, provided by Phil and Stephanie, respectively. Stephanie shows that she has a truly beautiful voice, singing lead in all the songs. Philip provides backing vocals on a couple of the tracks, and lead in the last song Southern Man I Am.

This album is executed beautifully. It's truly a shame that they only released the self titled. Just like with crust punk band Arson Anthem we're shown that Philip has mastery over the guitar as he does over singing. I honestly think all of you will get into this really easily.

Before Ohlin's suicide, Aarseth's murder, years before Vikernes' trial, before Faust killed a Homo, two decades before Gaahl stepped out of the closet, before the the Church burnings in Norway and before the following in Norway itself bloomed, There was a band from Brazil along with three others that pioneered their own scene. That band was Sarcofago.

Black Metal nerds often brag about the digital copies of their Grim Frostbitten Norwegian bands and how kvlt and tr00 they are by listening to bands like Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Emperor and Burzum (Not that these bands are bad, in fact the said bands are amazing) without even knowing the Hellish bands from latin america.

Sarcofago might not be as notorious as Mayhem, but they had their fair shares of hooligan actions. Years before the Norwegian scene burned churches and were killing each other, Sarcofago were busy stealing Brazil's Virgin Mary statues (No one knows what they did with it)

and pissing on the grave of Jesus of Nazareth.

Wagner Lamounier was Sepultura's old vocalist and from what I've heard, his butthurtness over that shit was the reason that he formed Sarcofago, and he definitely proved that he (band) can be better than Sepultura. Now he's a professor of Economic Sciences in some Brazilian university me thinks.

Sarcofago is one of the bands that pioneered the modern Latin American BM along with bands like Chakal, Holocausto and Mutilator.

You know that Hardcore/Jazz/Noise band named Midori? Gauge Means Nothing is pretty similar to that one except that they play Screamo and still retain a non random way of playing their instruments, as opposed to Midori (Noise, DUH? facepalm)

You can expect the squeaky japanese school girl vocals in this one too and I actually prefer this one over Mdori's, but both are good either way.

Also, the album almost have this Post-Rock approach, but isn't deserving of the title IMO.
